Friday, must I say anything more? I mean it’s the end of the week! It also means another week here in Sweden and I suddenly I remembered. I have a ticket right now to go back to Colorado which leaves on Monday. It seems as another week ends it’s not just another week that ends. Next week has changed it’s course because of my Visa. I have this ticket and it’s not going to be used. Continue reading
Looking for a new job can be a huge pain in the ass. Yes I know, now I have to be thankful that I am now even able to look for a job; after all it does mean I’m one step closer to having a life in Sweden. Just earlier today I was thinking about how searching for a job has changed a bit in my lifetime but I’m sure it’s even more foreign to my parents than I am to Sweden. There are however still some similarities, for example: You wake up early since that damn early bird keeps getting that damn worm. You still do two things when you wake up: First you head to the coffee machine to get your liquid life going, then second you head straight for the bathroom. (C’mon you just woke up of course you have to go there.) After you are done you head straight back to the kitchen and that’s when you start to wake up because the smell from the freshly brewed coffee subconsciously begins to make your life seem full of purpose. Maybe in America you are not at home while all of this is happening but really it’s the same thing. You’re just “waking up” in the drive through line while beginning to get anxious at one of the nearest Starbucks. Anyways… After your snack of a breakfast and cup of java is exactly where things have changed from the good’ol times.
So You really just have to taste it to understand but I guess until someone figures out how to send food via the Internet, (Watch the movie: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and see Wonka Vision) I figure pictures are the next best thing.
Every night Most nights consist of some type of snack or “kvällsfika” as it’s called in Sweden. Homemade bread from her mothers oven, (tonight it was toasted first) olive oil, freshly sliced cheese, and fresh marmalade. Luckily we have access to some just made raspberry marmalade which was just made 2 days ago. Oh my how this is so damn delicious. Yeah I know what you’re thinking, “How can you get your hands on some of that?” And my answer to you is sorry, you can’t! But you can look at the pics and enjoy.
Today has been a pretty low key day filled with Internet job searching, coffee, more searching, and laundry. After leaving the laundry room while walking up the stairs back home Nadja mentioned how we may need to put my lastname on the door so the mail man (or woman) would know to leave my VISA and person number info at the right house. Just a moment after explaining I had given them her last name for delivery, the mail was put into the mail slot in the front door downstairs. Ha, and wouldn’t you know as we were speaking about it my VISA showed up! As it turned out today wasn’t just a day of job searching and laundry after all.
Maybe our eyes can’t see around the corner quite yet (think Apple iEyes), but maybe sometimes we just know what’s about to happen without even knowing it.
I was looking through some of my pictures on my iPhone a few minutes ago and couldn’t help but notice this one. This morning I was in this this area today stopping by Urban Outfitters to follow up with the manager at the store because last Friday I turned in my CV (European equivalent of a resume). I took this pic about two months ago and when I saw it I thought it was just a good shot yet tonight this picture seems to resembles work. Two months ago was I taking a picture of an area that would mean more in my future such as a possible place to work? Well who know because I’m not going to think that hard right now.
For now I just stick with this being a good shot. Yet then again I’d have to say when it comes to this job, I feel I also have a good shot. Good Night
After finally getting my VISA acceptance letter I was ecstatic! I mean for almost the past year we have been playing the waiting game. Just when you think you have done all that you need to do, some new task seems to now be required of either myself or her. New paperwork, finding emails proving we are actually together, looking for past proof of trips we’ve had with each other; all in the name of love (haha).
So needless to say, the next two days after receiving my acceptance letter I went to both: the Swedish Migration Board to have my finger prints and picture taken for my VISA, and to the tax building to get my Personal Number (the same as a American social security number) paperwork filled out. My two month long vacation in Sweden to visit her started almost two months ago. We have done so much while being here. The point was to enjoy each other, you see she moved back to Stockholm in June since her job as an Au Pair in the states was up and we were without each other for over
an eternity two months. With our two year anniversary almost here and only two weeks left till I fly home, time felt as if it was nowhere near on our side.
About a week ago we came home from a long walk in Stockholm City, we were given some mail from her sister which atop the envelope stated it was from the Swedish Migration Board. Continue reading
