Nadja took a video of the atmosphere and the food we ate on Christmas here in Sweden. There was plenty to eat and yes believe me there was plenty to drink, but that’s for the next video. Enjoy

Tomten Comes To Town

A quick history lesson in Swedish Jul, Tomten comes to peoples houses during Christmas eve knocks on the door and gives out gifts. No it’s not like America where there is a local mall with a fake Santa and a line with someone waiting to capture your kids picture with Santa and take your money. Its just not the same

So this is just a warning to start off with: Kids, I’m really not Santa Clause (Tomten) so please understand that. Haha ok ok so what you’re about to see is completely embarrassing to me so that I must first say. During Christmas Eve (or better known as the day Sweden Celebrates Christmas) I went down to the bathroom to take care of some business when Nadja’s dad called for me to come into his room. I walked in there and I saw him holding a fake Santa (Tomten) face complete with a long white beard and hat. He said to me, “In 15 minutes I need you to put this face on and Santa hat on, my jacket, and shoes, go out side to the front door upstairs and knock on the door” Then say Ho Ho Ho, ask if there are any nice children here (in Swedish mind you) and hand out gifts.” I hope I didn’t show it because in my mind I was like WTF?! Haha I wasn’t sure if he was kidding me or not but as the video will soon show, he wasn’t kidding. I was so nervous, and excited all at the same time but the worst part was how incredibly small the eye holes were on the mask! I couldn’t find the name tags on the presents, oh my what an experience it was. If you can hear me I even threw in there I needed to leave soon because I was going to Finland next! I hope you like my Tomten voice 🙂 …

Swedish Christmas

So over the next couple days I’m going to post some pictures of my Christmas, some funny videos, and some to let you inside of our home to see what it was like. I sure missed my family yet I have to say that it was so much fun. Learning new things and being on this side of the world with my girlfriend has been amazing since she was with me in Denver for the past 2 years. This has been a great opportunity for me to see how things are over here. I hope you enjoy these pictures and be sure to check back for what I have in store for later 🙂 ENJOY!

I went to a indoor shopping mall with Nadja today. Actually we are on the bus going home from it right now as I write this. The place was actually pretty nice and since the weather is pretty cold I have to say that the American style shopping mall was a nice change of pace. I was starting to get hungry so I made a stop to the nearest food kiosk. It was a small stand which used a machine which resembles the same kind of rice steamer you’d see at an Asian restaurant, yet instead of rice it was corn. I thought it sounded interesting and who doesn’t like a cup of corn? So I opted for the “Mexikansk” cup of corn which was mixed with: Butter, salt, and chili powder. It reminded me of the Mile High Flea Market back at home, well maybe not exactly but it worked for me 🙂

About two weeks ago my girlfriend turned me on to this website called Pinterest. I don’t know if you are like me but I seem to have a hand full of social networks I’m trying to keep up with. Whether its snapping a shop for my iPhone app Instagram, updating the FB status or even trying to fit Google+ into my busy schedule, I seem to have my eyes glued to my iPhone. So when Nadja told me about yet another social network I needed to try I was like, Nej Tack (No Thanks)

The First Snow

Here is a picture I took a few days ago. For the past two months I have been told by almost every Swede I’ve talked to that I am going to be sorry when the snow comes. It’s has snowed about 3-5 times in Denver and still the weather seems to be better here in Stockholm than in Denver. Finally I saw some snowflakes falling from the Scandinavian sky so I decided to catch a picture while I was walking from the train to the the store for some milk. It wasn’t much but I will surely say that it’s getting colder as the days pass. I’ll keep you all posted on our weather out here, and while I wait for the next snowfall, I’ll have to hope it stays calm until after I can buy some snow boots. 🙂

The Challange

Well long time no see all my friends. Don’t think I’ve forgotten about this place I not so long ago use to write to everyday, because I didn’t. I have been doing well, actually I’ve been busy! Between my day to day activities I have to say life seems to continue moving and in order to keep up with it you really have to keep on moving.

My Thoughts

I’m sitting on the train now heading to class and I can’t seem to step into the reality that I’m now living in a new country. I guess it’s going to take me a little longer than 2 months to realize what I’m doing 🙂 I have been extremely lucky to be on the path that I’m on right now, well at least that’s the impression that I have after observing and talking to others.
